So recently I have really started getting into country more so in the past year or two. I was just wondering who all liked the music and if you liked older or newer country better, or if you had a preference.
Well as weird as it may be I like country, and about any other music too. I like newer stuff, I don't do the very old country. Right now my favorite group is Big and Rich.

I love country music! The awesome thing about country music is: You don't have to strain to understand the words! I actually like the slightly older music, from the 90's. Not too fond of the old old country, but not too impressed with this new stuff either.
me as well. i love asleep at the wheel
I'm glad that there are a few people that love it, i like some of the older stuff and some of the newer stuff as well, don't really have a preference as I have some very very old george strait, all the way to some Gretchen Wilson, blake shelton an dso on.
I love country music. I like some of the older singers such as Don Williams, Merle Haggard, Tanya Tucker, Pam Tillis, and some others who are no longer recording. I never did like George Jones or Loretta Lynn that much. I like a lot of the newer people, but not all of them. George Strait and Alan Jackson are two of my favorites, but I like so many I'm sure I'd forget half of them if I tried to name everyone I like.
Oh yeah! Go country! Sugarland all the way! Terri Clark, Lonestar, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Reba, Dolly, Garth, Alan Jackson, ooh and Brad! He's such a cuty! Hmmm, really enjoy the old stuff from time to time. Back to Hank sr. and Patsy Cline. Grin, love the music they play in cracker barel...lol! I'd have to say about half of our large music collection is country. Oh and Buddy Jewel; come out with new music!
Mmm country! Glad to know we al exist.
Heck yeah ... country's awesome. I remember the first song I ever heard on a country station was Jessica Andrews "Who I Am." And can you guess who's been one of my favorite country singers since then? Yup.
go go country! in australia, i listen the most in the radio stations is one of the country radio station. like it and it keeps me feeling relax all the time.
Yeah I really have started getting back into it again especially the last 2 years, I had stopped listening to it for a long long time, but am glad to hear it again now, and hear the old familiar Tunes, and some of the new ones too.
I like martina mcbride, Sara Evans, Lee Ann Womack, Reba, sugar land, little big town,Carrey underwood,George Straight, Josh turner, faith hill, tim mcgrah, and so many others. Anyone else like who I discussed?
I love country! I like the new stuff and some of the older stuff from the 90's as well. I like kerry Underwood a lot. Tim and faith r cool too. I've loved country all my life and could probably sing most of the new songs. lol
I'm going to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote the e-mail list for blind country music fans again. Send a blank e-mail with the word subscribe in the subject line to b_c_m-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
I was brought up on country as it's all my Dad listened too. It was the only music I liked when I was little but I branched out when I got a bit older. I don't like everything I use too but most of it. I think I preferr the older country, but there's occasionally exceptions.
I'm mostly in agreement with Kai on this. Nineties country is good, but most of the newer stuff...not as much. I like very few female country singers, but then, I like very few female singers in general. I do like Martina McBride, though, and Sarah Evans is all right. Faith Hill makes me gag, and Tim McGraw only has a few good songs. Overall, I don't have a problem with country music, but I can think of other things I'd rather listen to. Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts, however...yes.
Hey! I absolutely love country music!! My favorites include: Billy Gilman, (I love him!!!!), LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, and Rascal Flatts, and Pam Tillis is good too. I'm not into the "Classic Country" although I do like Patsey Cline's "Crazy" but other wise, I'm not into the classic country. (I also like Allison Cross) The newer country is what I like the most.
Good topic!
Amber
In fact I am listening to Country right now. I quite enjoy anything that sounds good but Country music is in the top 3.
I can appreciate some of the classic country artists as musicians, such as Johnny Cash, but I can't say I care for the style as a whole. I do like any of the country comedy/novelty songs, though.
Ok it is my turn. I listen to a mixture of old and new. I have a lot of cds that are country. I like most of the stuff that is or has a steel gitar. I do like some of the stuff the billy gilman recorded when he first started out. I even listen to grand old oprey every weekend on serius radio.
Woot! I listen to a wide variety of music but country is a large part of it. Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, LeAnn Rimes, George Strait, Toby Keith's OLDER stuff (the new stuff is junk), Trace Atkin's not so trashy goofy stuff, Big and Rich's latest song "Lost in this moment" is love, and last but the very bsst, cutest married with kid country singer in the entire freaking world is Brad Paisley! Anyone who doesn't like him is a whore! lol jk, but I'm a die hard country fan, just to give me any Gretchen Wilson or I'll puke lol she's trashy lol. Like Jeff Foxworthy once said, "Country music is about working hard 'cause that's what we do. We sing about God 'cause it's what we believe in. We're not trying to offend you, but we're not going to hide what we think. It's truth, it's honesty, it's real life."
Hey: I prefer older country myself, not like the bluegrass, but after about 1994 or 1995 country started going down hill [in my opinion] Garth Brooks's Wild Horses and Rope in the wind albums were likely the last really good new releases. I also like George Strait, Clint Black, Soya Brown, Keith Whitley, Hank Willians jr., David allin coe, Charley Danials , etc.
Go ash. You know exactly what' you're talking about, lol. Yeah country is good.
All the brad paisley fans.. I totally agree with you, except I don't find him cute, obviously, grin. Alan JAckson, Loanstar, Allison Krauss, Don Williams, Sarah Evans, Travis tritt (some anyway), little big town, Jessica Andrews, some of:
Randy Travis, Tim Mcgraw, Tracy Bird, The Judds, and more. Older country like Jim Reeves etc... hmm not so much, although I do admire Chet Atkins' skill as a guitarist among others. But as for guitarists, Brent Mason rocks! Want to joina country band as a guitarist, wish I could... oh well. I'm out, tc, Simon
Oh country rocks, I play drums and guitar and love both old and new. Alabama really got me into country. I grew up with Jonny cash Merl Haggard the statlers and more but alabama got me hooked I like concerts and sara eveans and george strait rule as well!
hey, i love some country. i like Carrie, Underwood, Leann Rhymes, Lee Ann Womack, and absolutely love Alison Krauss and Union Station! I love to sing all of Alison's stuff two, what a wonderful pure earthy voice she's got! and as for keith urban, mMMMM!
Will check out jessica andrews as my collection mostly consists of feamle artists cause then i can sing them, thanks for mentioning her!
Ker
OH I love some country music, speacially the classic stuff.
I love anyhting from the 90's and today. My favorites though are Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, and Terri Clark.
50's and 60's Is my thing.
I love country, always have. Clint Black is perfect! but love all new country stuff. I sing it, too, in the UK. Have done so in Nashville, also.
New country depresses me, so I only listen to it if I'm forced to--stuck in someone's car, or something. LOL Really, the music is boring, and I'm sick of hearing the cutesy songs about angels, and children, and... well, whatever they like to sing of, these days. Where's the drinking and cheating? NO, I mean *real drinking and cheating! LOL
I discovered country when I was in high school, in 89 or 90, and I latched onto Reba first, though I haven't cared for any of her music since about '92. I do like Pam Tillis's voice. There was a station on AM in Houston in the early '90s that changed my taste in country altogether. It was a great classic country show that didn't just play the well-knowns, and so I got exposed to a lot from the 30s through the 60s that would seem rare, now. I LOVED it!
There was a song I heard once, and never forgot, though I have no idea who it was or its title. I don't know if I'd really want to hear it again, it was so damned depressing, but it stuck in my mind, about a little girl who fell into a well and died. Bet they wouldn't put it on the airwaves today.
I love that jingling steel guitar of the 50s stuff, and I'd have to say that to my ear, the 50s and 60s country is best. I like fiddles!
I have been unable to get any on CD, sadly, but I really like listening to Texas Ruby--there's just something about her deep voice...
I adore Patsy--everything, not just the greatest hits. Pick Me Up On Your Way Down is probably my favorite of her songs, but the combination of her voice and the music in The Wayward Wind is breathtakingly beautiful! I'd listen to her sing the phonebook.
Johnny Cash's Understand Your Man makes me chuckle everytime I hear it.
I like Kitty Wells, and Carl Smith, Webb Pierce, George Jones stuff from before the 70s, Wanda Jackson, Farron Young; the list is a long one. *smile* I never cared for Loretta, though, and I used to be a huge Tammy Wynette fan, but now I can only take her in small doeses; the doormat songs just get on my nerbes!
LibraLady, or anyone, does the B_C_M list still exist? I tried to subscribe, and got an error msg from Yahoo.
And for those of you who might know such things, is there a good 'net station where one can hear old country?
Our so-called classic country station in my city plays mostly 70s and 80s stuff.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
www.icebergradio.com Go there and clik on time capsules. You shud fined what you are looking for. There are menny good stations on there.
i love country music. but also love many other types of music. it really depends on the song more than the artist. but some of the artists that really stick out as having more than one song i'll listen to are garth, george strait, rascal flats, brad paisley, sarah evans, dixie chicks, sugarland, reba, shedaisy, and could never forget my future husband kenny chesney. i'm sure there are many more that just aren't popping into my head right now.
Christine, I will get back on here later with the address of that country music e-mail list. The old one you named sort of just disappeared. Whoever the moderator was just stopped keeping it going. So a couple other people started a similar list on yahoogroups and took the name "blind" out of it to encourage more people to join. But I dropped off of it because I belong to so many other lists, and I've forgotten the address for it. I'll e-mail a friend from the list and find out for you.
Well, I listen to and play about everything. I was classically trained, but nothing tells a story like country. In modern country, I'd have to say my favorite group is Rascal Flats. I like Trishy Yearwood, Ricky Scags, Vince Gill, (Heard him jam with the Main Ingredient once), to name a few. I hate naming names, because I'll inevitably leave someone out. I think much of the country from the 90's resembles 70's top 40 rock in some ways.
Lou
Okay, for Christina and anyone else who would like to join an e-mail list for country music fans, send a blank e-mail to cmfi-subscribe@yahoogroups.com and put the word subscribe in the subject line. This was originally for blind country music fans but is expanding.
I love country music because every song is like a story and it reminds me of being out on the lake or out in the country
Its some nice music to chill to.
